Rehearse

Rehearsing with ActOnCue lets you run scenes with realistic AI voices reading opposite you. Import your script, assign voices, and rehearse as many times as you need.

Before you start:

Step 1: Import your script

import-script

Start by uploading your material. Tap Import PDF and select your script file. The app will scan the document and prepare it for rehearsal automatically.

Need to paste text instead of uploading a PDF? See Load your script.

Step 2: Assign roles and voices

assign-roles

Choose which character you want to rehearse as. Then assign voices to the remaining characters. Each character (except your own) can be given a unique voice with its own accent, tone, and delivery style.

Selecting and previewing voices

open the voice settings

Tap the settings icon to access voice controls. You will see all characters in your script listed. Tap on any character (other than your own) to open the voice menu.

assign voices to characters

Browse the available options and use the play button to preview how each voice sounds before selecting it. Once you have picked a voice, it will automatically be saved. You can change voices at any time, even mid-rehearsal.

Not sure which voice type to pick? See Understanding voice types to learn the difference between Dramatic, Consistent, and My Own Voice.

Step 3: Set your preferences

set-preferences

Before you begin rehearsing, adjust the settings to suit your style:

  • Script visibility - Show the full script, only your lines, or hide your lines to test your memory. See Learn lines for all visibility modes
  • Pauses - Add pauses between lines to give yourself more space
  • Display options - Control which script elements are visible (headings, actions, character names, etc.)

For a detailed walkthrough of all settings, see Customize your rehearsal.

Step 4: Start rehearsal

start-rehearsal

Tap Rehearse in the top right corner and let the scene play out. Your scene partner will read every character's lines except yours. Speak your lines out loud as you go, just like in a real rehearsal.

The teleprompter will scroll automatically, following the flow of the scene.

Step 5: Repeat and refine

repeat-and-refine

Rehearse as many times as you like. Try different line readings, explore emotional shifts, or focus on memorisation. The more you practise, the more confident and natural your performance will become.
